Insights from data analysis performed on the more than 300 TAVR patients treated at SMC since 2017.

  • Insurance.

    Insurance rates of the patients who received TAVR is 99.5%. In contrast, insurance rates of blacks from our community-collected survey is 94.2%. This is a statistically significant difference as determined by a chi-square test.

  • Income.

    Income levels were approximated from household value to ensure privacy; the average household value of patients who received TAVR was $217,000. Household value has been determined as an indicator of income bracket through various studies. In contrast, the average household value of community-collected survey results was $154,000. This is a statistically significant difference as determined by a chi-square test.

  • Primary Care Physicians.

    97.5% of patients who received TAVR had a PCP. In contrast, 65.7% of community-collected members had a PCP. This is a statistically significant difference as determined by a chi-square test.

  • Prior Healthcare Exposure.

    96.5% of patients had at least 1 surgery prior to TAVR (an indicator for prior exposure to the healthcare system). In contrast, 35.6% of community-collected survey members have had a surgical procedure. This is a statistically significant difference as determined by a chi-square test.

  • Risk Factors.

    94.0% of patients who got TAVR had at least one risk factor (hypertension, hyperlipidemia). 80.1% of surveyed members had at least one risk factor. This is a statistically significant difference as determined by a chi-square test.
